I might be going to Brazil in April.

I'm not too worried, though.  Cities are good at keeping gang violence away from the tourists.  Case in point: Las Vegas - gang-related shootings have skyrocketed in the last 10 years or so, but it's all invisible to anyone who doesn't live in those neighborhoods...
