For the past several days, my Internet activity has been significantly slowed in both my browser (Firefox) and e-mail client (T'bird) while their respective status bars display something along the lines of, "looking up..."
Is that a sign of a DNS problem somewhere in the pipeline?
It seemed to start *roughly* around the time I allowed MS Updates to install XP SP3. Coinkydink?

I haven't noticed that one, per se, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Ever since I let Microsoft automatically update Office 2007 for me, Word 2007 crashes every time I shut it down. I don't lose data or documents, but it's annoying for "Windows to be looking for a friggin' solution" every single time I close the program down! *grrrrr*
Checking online, of course, I find that it's a "known issue".

Why would you think that this is a DNS problem? It could be as simple as rebooting your modem.

Because it persisted for at least a week, regardless of restarts of browser and e-mail client and reboots of system. However, it seems to have cleared up and has been working better the past 2-3 days.
