Well, i don't understand your desktop. Where's all your icons? Well, I am not running ubuntu, and my WindowManager is fluxbox (what you see in the picture of my desktop). Ubuntu looks like this:

You can change the wallpaper and look of that quite a bit however, something like this:

You can put icons and all that on your desktop -- I don't on Linux because I like a minimalist desktop (it runs super fast).
