Last night's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "Magazine" section, had a close-up of the cover of something called, "DC Universe 0."

What is it?  Why is it divided up as it is?  Why are there apparently two Supermen and two Green Lanterns?  Why is one of the Supermen apparently wearing a Legion ring?  Why does the Spectre appear to be some black guy?

Sheesh, ya quit readin' comix for a mere 20 years or so, and look what happens!

It's been a number of years since I've bought comic books, and granted the last few series I bought were Elfquest, Strangers in Paradise and Thor, but skimming titles on the racks gives you an idea of what's going on, along with occassionally reading magazines on comics, such as Wizard.  Peruse an occassional Wizard whenever you're visiting a bookstore and you'll get a gist of current comic-dom.

DC is probably doing thusly since Marvel's rolling out their Avengers line-up and doing quite well at the box-office with a number of movies, whereas they've only got Batman (which has, granted, done quite well).  Don't forget too that a number of years ago Marvel did a flash-forward series Earth X, and before that DC had Superman die, there was Marvel's Secret Wars and there was some series arc back in the 80s in DC wherein Superman got a Green Lantern ring and Batman had to kill him or subdue him or somesuch.

The comics industry, specifically Marvel and DC love to change up the storylines and characters to keep things fresh.  Continuity is out the window... which makes sense when you figure that probably a large number of comicbook readers are such as you, me and Arthur - we had our time, and now we're done.  Smaller titles, ones that focus on "real" life instead of battles, enemies and powers on a grand scale, pay more attention to continuity and reader loyalty and the total art package - though to be sure there've been some great artists and writers that work in DC and Marvel and Image.

But, you knew this already. :)

We just had a garage sale last weekend.  I sold a number of slo's (sword like objects - aka, fakes that can still hurt!) I owned and several comic book toys, large posable dolls (think old GI Joes) still in their packaging of Spiderman and Storm that a friend had given me a number of years ago.

I'm sitting on a cheap, storebought pewter Thor I have until the Thor movie comes out.  Eventually I intend on trying to get a table at a local comic "convention" sale once the economy picks up a little.  I've got a resin Elfquest model I never put together that I want to sell, along with several hundred comics.  I've got a nearly complete Elfquest collection and just over 3/4 of Marvel's Thor.  I gave my SIP series away as a gift to one of my s-i-l's.

If you know anyone who's got a grand and interested in buying a real sword, drop me a message.
