For those of you who claim that Christians are not particularly trying to erode the separation of church and state, here's a story from today's news:

As much as I love the south, I can't wait to leave. It's a shame what religion has done to the region.
Religion also doesn't like differing view points either. They're daaangerous and scary.

Yeah, it's a damn shame that labor unions and tax crazed liberals have bankrupted many northern states to the point that you have to come south to find work so your families don't starve. And to top it off, you have to put up with Christian values...poor-poor baby.

No. I have to put with hate-mongering rednecks. Although, I guess it's fair to assume that the desert Jews would have probably have had red necks, right?
I guess hateful, ignorant rednecks ARE a Christian ideal. After all, the Bible promotes both hate and ignorance. Oh, those good Christian values. Hate your neighbor and tear down the library. Thanks for clearing that up for me, manonfire.
I say cut the South loose and let you guys have a Christian mecca of your own. I'd be totally cool with that. You?

My guess is that you have never lived in the south. You remind me of my mother-in-law from Michigan. She had similar stereotypes as you have until she moved here. In fact, when I married her daughter, she wanted to know how big my ranch was. She believed that most Texans owned ranches.
I attend a Baptist Church here in Sugar Land, TX., and I have never run across a so called "redneck" there.
After all, the Bible promotes both hate and ignorance.
No it doesn't. However, haters and ignorant people who have read a few passages of the bible, have been known to come to your conclusion.

Well, man, I wasn't referring to where your body will end up. Your body is just an earth suit to house your spirit, or soul. But hey, believe what you wish.

You'd be wrong. I've lived in the South my entire life. I was born and raised in Georgia, lived for 4 years in Alabama, and now I'm back in Atlanta.

Funny, I've never seen a soul. Can you give me some evidence for its existence and some information on how I can measure it? I'd like to know what's going on inside my body.

That is absolutely ridiculous. The South is the third world of the United States - Missouri and Mississippi have the lowest standards of living and the worst economies in the country.
The strongest economies? They're in those big, liberal areas.

I don't consider Texas part of the "south." Texas is its own thing. Texas can keep it. -prodomal
Texas is its own thing, isn't it? I love it here even having lived the other half of my life in NY.
That said, I can relate to what hiram was saying about how northerners think of Texans, (ranches and all). And many Texans do live on ranches still, but not all. With so many people coming here from all over the nation, many neighborhoods have been built (and in my opinion the houses are ridiculously close given the land here).
I was actually amazed while driving through the city of Houston; to me, it resembled NYC more than any other I have seen, to date, in this great nation. And people there drive just as crazily too! I had become so used to driving out in the country where I live (even the city of Dallas is rather harmless comparitively speaking) that when I hit Houston, I had to remember my NYC driving skills in a hurry!
Texas is a lot like NY state in many ways. For example, you can find beaches here on the gulf, you can find hills and valleys in Austin (& the musically-inclined too/artists like in Greenwich Village in NY, & also in Rockport here too), you can find the plains/flatlands where animals of all sorts live and graze (ranches), and then there's certain parts of Dallas proper even, where you can find what would be similar to China-town in NY, where Asians mostly live. Today I visited such a place in north Dallas, and found a wonderful Thai restaurant to have lunch, and also a huge Asian market to shop.
-Which reminds me........I need to ask Evelyn some questions about Japanese food/recipes........

There are some on the board who prejudice the rest against their state of domicile, Pearls. Don't take it personally.
Have you ever been to Miami?
