We've had a long and mostly-happy relationship.
However, if you don't stop re-running Gretta's interview with Sarah Palin, I'm leaving you for good. One viewing of Sarah riding her snow mobile, and Sarah cooking her moose stew was more than enough for me. Please stop it.
Also, some of your syndicated channels are running "We appreciate you, Sarah Palin" commercials. You may well appreciate Sarah, but I really don't appreciate these little breaks in my viewing day, since the ink was barely dry on the election result forms before you started shoving Sarah Palin down my throat again.
Please. The world is in crisis. We have a long way to go in the next four years before we have to start admiring Sarah again. Wasn't it enough that she completely upstaged Presidential hopeful John McCain? Does she have to upstage the incoming President-elect too?
Give me some time to forget about Sarah, will you? I can barely get through the day without having a Palin flashback, like a bad dream where Sarah says, over and over, "I can see Russia from my house", and "I'm just sooo mavericky!"
I just need some time. Let her fade to the background a bit, and in the meantime, you can work with her to correct her accent and clean up some of her favorite hick colloquialisms. Re-introduce her (as a completely different person) in a few years, and I'll take a look at her again and see if I feel any differently about her then.
Meanwhile, I'm switching over to CNN. They fart out a Palin story from time to time, but not nearly so much that I can't switch the channel for a moment or two in order to avoid her.
That's all I have to say. I sincerely hope we can work this out.

ROTFLOL...HH, that was hilarious!
Hey...now we know where Stiggy's got to; I was afraid he'd jumped off a high building after the election, but I can rest now, reassured that he's safe and well and glued to Foxnews in the hope of catching a glimpse of his chicky-babe!

And yet she never said that even once, much less "over and over," meaning that in all this alleged Palin-saturation, you either haven't been listening or you use Jon Stewart maybe as your main source of news.
Well, here' some news for you: Comedians are not the best source for accurate news.
you can work with her to correct her accent
CORRECT HER ACCENT? And which accent would be the correct one: the one YOU have? I wasn't even aware that there was a "correct" accent.
I can see that in my two week absence, the idiocy here at AARM continues to grow.

I'll admit that the latter caused me the most rolling on the floor, laughing out loud. ROTFLOL, indeed!

Well, here' some news for you: Comedians are not the best source for accurate news.
What she did say "over and over" was that her proximity to Russia gave her foreign policy experience.
It was the most asinine claim I've ever heard. The first time I heard it was from someone in McCain's campaign, and I thought it was going to be a national joke for a few days and go away. Instead, other people in the campaign started repeating it, and then Palin started saying it, and then she kept sticking to it despite being given many, many chances to back down.
And her actual quote was every bit as stupid as "I can see Russia from my house."

Well, no she didn't. But thinking she did, as you do, still isn't quite as idiotic as thinking she said she could see Russia from her house.

Well, obviously not, since one CANNOT see Russia from her house, whereas Alaska is the only state where Russia is visible with the naked eye. No, I'd say equating the alleged stupidity of an actual fact with the stupidity of an actual untruth, is ....., well...... "every bit as stupid" as "I can see Russia from my window," which NO ONE said, other than the idiots who misquoted her.

Actually, HH's whole post.
Good to see you back, and in as fine form as ever, Stiggy. I'm glad you're over your bout of OWAD. (Obama Won Anxiety Disorder)
And look...the world hasn't ended...

Yeah, it was pretty laughable all right.

Yes, she did. Many times. And when Couric challenged her on it, she affirmed that, yes, she felt that her proximity to Russia gave her foreign policy experience.

Oh, I'm not claiming that "I can see Russia from my house" wouldn't have been a stupid thing to say. (Incidentally, for the record, that quote was from SNL, not John Stewart).
But her actual quote - a confused ramble that implied that she thought Vladimir Putin was actually going to send planes into Alaskan airspace - was also mind-bogglingly stupid.
While there's technically no metric to compare the stupidity of two quotes, I'd actually say that a simple misstatement of fact would not be as stupid as what she actually said, which both suggested that she thought Putin was likely to launch an air attack against Alaska, and also suggested - falsely - that her role as Alaska's governor had given her any training whatsoever to deal with such a thing if it did occur.

And I never claimed that you said that her saying what she did not say would be a stupid thing to say.
(Incidentally, for the record, that quote was from SNL, not John Stewart).
Many, many comedians jumped on the "stupid bandwagon" with this one, and I doubt that Jon Stewart was any exception.
But her actual quote - a confused ramble that implied that she thought Vladimir Putin was actually going to send planes into Alaskan airspace
Nope. She never said that either. Which comedian quoted her as saying that? This time, instead of a link, why not just give the quote in which she claims that she thinks that Putin is going to send planes into Alaskan airspace. Word for word: Put quotation marks around it.
- was also mind-bogglingly stupid.
But she never said that, so the mind-boggling stupidity award goes to those who claim she did.
she thought Putin was likely to launch an air attack against Alaska,
But she didn't. That's why you will be unable to reply with an actual QUOTE in which she said that. Instead, you'll most likely just reply with more stuff she never said, which you can then label "stupid."

Already gave it: it was in that picture.
"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska."

Learn to read, Stigs.
I didn't say that Sarah said, over and over, that she can see Russia from her house.
I said that I was having flashbacks, bad dreams, in which Sarah Palin says, over and over, that she can see Russia from her house.
There is a distinction.
Here's my exact quote.
Give me some time to forget about Sarah, will you? I can barely get through the day without having a Palin flashback, like a bad dream where Sarah says, over and over, "I can see Russia from my house", and "I'm just sooo mavericky!"
As to what accent to I find acceptable ... any accent other than her distinctly hokey one.
Most successful people learn to neutralize their regional dialect. Do you think Obama would have won the election if his speeches had consisted of comments directed toward his 'homies' or 'home boys', or if he combatted every with disagreement with a reference toward 'yo mamma'?

Yeah....? And.....? I would say that if Putin does indeed rear his ugly head and invade America's airspace, that it would most likely be Alaska. Maybe you were thinking Nebraska?

So you're going to get away from FOX News because you keep hearing her misquote from SNL? Are you under the impression that SNL is broadacst by FOX News?

HOKEY? Palin's accent is hokey? You think she fakes it, just to irritate members of the accent police, such as yourself?

Too bad nobody taught JFK how to pronounce "Cuba." Then he could have been REAL "successful."

She didn't say "if." She said "as." And why on earth would she discuss an invasion by Putin? There is absolutely no chance of that happening.
Besides, even in some alternate universe where Putin *did* want to launch a suprise attack on America, it would make just as much sense for him to hit, say, Vandenberg as it would to hit Elmendorf. Just because something's a bit closer doesn't make it the right strategic choice.

Most successful people learn to neutralize their regional dialect Ah, but that's irrelevant, HH. Palin is heard in videos from a few years ago with no trace of the hokey Minnesota accent. She didn't have to neutralize her regional accent, she was told to adopt an accent that stupid conservative voters might identify with.
Remember this McCain only met her 2 days before naming her his VP... He had no real interest in her as a genuine running mate, but how broad the base of voters she could appeal to:
1. Female voters: She's a woman!
2. male voters: And a MILF!
Midwestern middle-class America:
And talks like her parents were Svenska immigrants!
The most amusing part of this was that the pubs actually hoped if the American people were stupid enough to vote in Bush, they were stupid enough to vote in the Bridge to Nowhere.
It's not amusing how they threw her under the bus when they were done with her. That's vile, but SOP for republican politicians.
It is, however, amusing that apparently she believes her own hype and thinks she will magically become intelligent in the next 4 years and get elected on her own.
M.
