Yeah, I love the way it properly translates the word "wine" into "grape juice." It is almost a miracle it is, something like Jesus when he changed the water into wine, err rather, grape juice. This will be as significant in it publication, as was the 1978 Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, since it gives that 1978 Statement something worthwhile to make inerrant.

IIRC, there is no Hebrew word for "wine." It's closest translation to English is "grape."

Walter Martin addressed this by using the same word from various texts. In some, the author mentions people becoming drunk from "grape." There is another text where two people loaded "grape" onto a pole to carry it into town, which also shows that there is no word for "grapes" (plural) or grape bundles.

So someone could conceivably translate all scriptural passages of "grape" to mean "grape juice" but they would also be completely ignoring the context.

It is my understanding that in the Greek, it is very specific. It has various words to identify different kinds of wine. At the wedding in Cana, apparently the wine into which the water was changed, was alcoholic wine. And that information came to me from a fundie as well. :D

Well, in that link, this is how a certain other passage is translated, but ya know, I bet this here Conservative Bible is consistent, eh?

Conservative Bible: “And no man puts fresh grape juice into old bottles. The fresh juice will burst the bottles, spilling the juice and damaging the bottles. Fresh juice must be put into new bottles.”

I stand corrected. Martin was talking about texts originally written in Hebrew in the OT. I believe much of the original NT texts are Greek. I'd never heard how Greek "wine" is translated until now.

I think Young's Literal Translation is often interesting in cases like this:

John 2:10: "and saith to him, `Every man, at first, the good wine doth set forth; and when they may have drunk freely, then the inferior; thou didst keep the good wine till now.'"

So - yeah, I guess that could be translated "Every man sets out the good grape juice first, and when everyone's had enough, puts out the inferior grape juice.  But you kept the good grape juice until now!"

But that sure seems laughably ridiculous.

Maybe Jesus changed the water into Welch's Grape Juice... besides, Welch's is more or less the standard communion grape juice for fellowship Baptist churches in my neck of the woods. Hmm, hmm, good!

I've always preferred Welch's grape soda.  It's got a little more fizz.  I've always thought the Blood of Christ would have a little kick to it.
