Does chronic sin in a person's life effect whether or not God hears their prayers? What about apostasy or potential blasphemy of the holy spirit (dabbling in satanism, black magic, cursing God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit, crossing yourself with your middle finger, telling God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit to 'eff off,' saying 'eff the Holy Spirit,' etc?)? What about repenting of a sinful habit and then going back to it every few days or weeks, knowing that it's sinful and that you're essentially flipping God off by doing it? Please, no snarky comments here. I'm serious. There's someone in my life that I need to pray for, and I've been trying to get my act together so that I can pray effectively again, but I haven't come very far. :?

Seriously, Yoda, make up your mind and stick to one or the other.  If you try to play both sides against the middle, nothing will work.  You'll be too good for evil and too evil for good.

And it isn't as if you don't already know this.

What's going to happen if your gf doesn't come back?  Another round of god-hating and sin-spree?

Yoda, I could see a Catholic ask this question, but not a Protestant. Regardless, it is written that the prayers of a righteous man can accomplish much. Of course, we also know that none are righteous, that is written in the same book. But if you still believe in the potential effectiveness of prayer, then if I were you, I would just do it and not worry about it. God will hear and do what he thinks best, I am sure.

It is said that God hears the prayers of the righteous. If you have a truly repentive heart and your faith is in Jesus then you can consider yourself somewhat "righteous". Not sure what you mean by "pray effectively" though. I never expect my prayers to be answered in the way I want them to be, but by God's Will.

YO: I know. You're absolutely correct about this, Merlin. I often joke that I am spiritually 'bipolar,' but even I am amazed at how quickly I waver between extremes of spiritual good and evil. I'm almost like two-face from Batman sometimes. :- \ There are actually some things along those lines that I'd like to talk to you about, Merlin, because I think you might have some insight on this area, having been on both sides of the game, so to speak. And it isn't as if you don't already know this.YO: I know. But I'm starting to think that there is something bigger going on in my life. I don't really want to comment on it yet because it will sound absurd. What's going to happen if your gf doesn't come back?  Another round of god-hating and sin-spree?YO: No, that issue has been resolved. I learned some precious lessons from it. We're in contact. We actually never had a falling out; I was just being an emo idiot about some things. She's not my gf, but I love her as a friend and as a human being. When you love someone on a deeper level, it really doesn't matter what the nature of the relationship is.

There are things I disagree with in Catholicism, but I admire the fact that Catholics seem to take their spirituality seriously. I will never go for a fluffy, bull**** Christianity where you do an altar call and then go back to cheating on your wife and drinking like a fish, if you know what I mean. It's either real or not real; there's either power in holiness or it's an empty joke.

Sounds to me like love is reigning in your heart and mind and you are seeing that nothing else *really matters, in comparison.  Faith *works -by love.- Never forget that!

In my opinion, this is something/somewhere wonderful the Lord is bringing you to../into.  No need to give another thought or worry to that *place of self-condemnation, for the Lord does not condemn you, at all. So please don't waste another moment condemning yourself, or thinking He is not hearing you because of a personal weakness or sin.  He has already dealt with all of our sins on the cross and it really IS finished...you're just being led into the freedom of knowing that--FREEDOM.

He's just moving you -through- this valley and on to a better place, and using it to bring you there.  Serious times call for some serious-soul-searching and Lord-seeking and yes, prayers many times, are a major part of that work.  And I totally get that you want nothing to interfere with that aspect of your walk now.  Sometimes that meant, for me, not to even let an intrusive word darken my heart and mind/not to even LOOK at it, as I walked before Him.

It does entail taking a good, hard look at how you walk before Him, what you welcome into your life and what you do not.

This is the goodness of the Lord at work in your life, so rejoice, my friend!  You are totally loved regardless of any sin...every sin....past, present, or future.

There is a ~rest~ to the people of God. Enter into that rest.

You will ATTRACT what you EXPECT to happen.  You are making your own reality, Yoda.

The war will cease when you cease to expect a war.

YO: But I'm not unhappy where I am right now. Challenged, maybe, but not miserable at all. It's not like I'm attracting something bad into my life.
