I know you won't mind coz you just lurve those conservatives.

Chicago certainly has it's share of fat people...and crooked politics. No dispute there.

It's sure a shame that the conservative talking heads trashed your fair city in an effort to make Obama look wrong for wanting the Olympics to be in the USA again. I guess you just have to agree with whatever they said about you guys, because you woudn't want to contradict them or anything.
I had no idea that Chicago was nothing but gang violence and fat people.
Or maybe the talking heads were talking shit, just tryng to cause more trouble for Obama, and they deliberately misrepresented Chicago and told a bunch of lies about you?
But you'd probably never admit THAT, huh?

| From Chicago comes forth Obama and Oprah. For the conservatives, particularly the religious right kind, one of these has gotta be the Anti-Christ. And they are both black, tooooooooooooooo.

The thread has nothing to do with "missing you." I wanted to see if you would accept conservative criticism of your city just because a conservative talking head made the claims, or if you would step up and say, "Hey, they're lying. We may have problems like every other city, but we're not the way they descibed us." Of course, to do that, you would have to go against the current smear-Obama campaign.
I guess I got my answer when you agreed with them-- or at least, you didn't deny anything they said in the video of their nasty claims about Chicago.

Everyone has a right to an opinion. Chicago is a great city and I love it! If we have a lot of fat people it must be because we rule when it comes to pizza, Italian beef and hot dogs!
Miami, on the other hand...yuck! And downright scary in the 70's. Worse of the worse! You might have a nice beach, but that's about it.

I've seen the same documentary.
Do you think all of Miami was like the stuff you saw in the documentary?
(And never mind that it talked about cocaine wars in Miami almost 30 years ago......)

I didn't make the claim. Conservatives made the claim. It doesn't matter what I think.
So, is everyone in Chcago fat and eats all the time, or were those conservative guys telling a lie to make Chicago look bad?
btw, what is an Italian beef?

Oh.... hell, I made one of those for Cathy the other day here at the house. That's a steak with peppers and onions hoagie. I'm guessing that the sauce has a distinctive "Chicago" taste. Those are OK, but I don't like cooked peppers or onions..........
You want real food, try a medianoche:
(How to make a Sandwich Cubano / Medianoche)
Some of you may ask, why have a recipe for a Cuban sandwich, and one for a medianoche? The answer is simple, there is a distinction between the two. The medianoche earns its name from the time that it was typically eaten. After a night of dancing, the medianoche is a perfect way to stave off hunger. Its often smaller than a typical Cuban sandwich, and it is made on a sweeter variety of bread (typically a yellow egg bread). On a traditional medianoche, there should not be any mayonnaise, tomatoes, onions, bell pepper or lettuce. Often times, one can use leftover meats from the fridge for a medianoche. In making a good medianoche, remember this. The Roast Pork is what will make the sandwich, so you can never leave it out.
3 thin slices of ham
3 thin slices roast pork hot or cold (I use hot, slow roasted pork)
3 thin slices of Swiss cheese
3 or 4 slices of pickles
1/3 cut Cuban bread (sweet yellow bread)
You should be using fresh, sweet Cuban bread. If you don't have access to a bakery that sells this bread, an alternative is the Jewish Challah egg bread that they sell at the Albertson's bakery (if its not on display, you can actually request that they make it for you). Technically those loaves are too big, but in terms of taste, its similar.
Slice the bread open face so that both halves are still barely connected and spread mustard on both halves. Add the ham, and then the roasted pork. When in a hurry, you can use one whole piece of roasted pork. Add your Swiss cheese and then a few pickle slices. Make sure to spray your sandwich press with a little butter flavored Pam, or brush some soft butter on the outside of the bread. Place the sandwich in a sandwich press and press down until the cheese is melted and the bread is slightly hard to the touch. For those of you without a press, you can also place the sandwich in a hot skillet and press down on it with a heavy kitchen object. (some, believe it or not, use a brick wrapped in tin foil when nothing else is available). For years I've used a Gaunaurd sandwich maker, it has removable, easy to clean plates. Never use a panini grill, they simply don't heat sandwiches evenly and a real Cuban doesn't have lines grilled into it. When finished, slice the sandwich diagonally across the middle so that you have two triangle shaped wedges. Enjoy!
To answer a question I am often emailed: there is only one website I know of that sells REAL Medianoche Bread online, click here to visit their site. They call it "Midnight Bread" in their bakery section, and the stuff is fantastic.
New - I recently found this article on how a Cuban Sandwich is made over at the "Off The Broiler" website. Although their recipe differs slightly than the one listed above, its an excellent set of photos showing how to prepare a Sandwich Cubano. DON'T click the link if you're hungry, the photos are incredible. They also have a review of a Cuban diner in Miami with great pictures.
Webmaster's note: If you are having trouble roasting the pork yourself, some supermarkets such as Albertsons sell a decent precooked roasted pork such as Hormel Pork Roast Au Jus in their meat and chicken section. Sliced thin or shredded, its very good (but always opt to roast your own).

Onions? No, no, no.. This is not a "hoagie". The beef is very thinly sliced and the juice is distinctively seasoned. I like to eat mine with sweet peppers and giardiniera.
And I'm sure you've had a hot dog before, maybe even a Vienna all-beef hot dog, but you have not had a hot dog until you've had Chicago style hot dog (preferably from Portillo's).
As for the Cuban sandwich...I'm not big on pork or ham, but when in Miami, I did eat Cuban food. I can't remember now what it was, but do remember making distinctively Cuban food choices, just like I only drank Mojitos when in Puerto Rico.

Everything down here is flavored with mojo, a Cuban marinating sauce-- so I understand that every cultural center has distinctive flavors to food.
Down here we have NY deli, jewish, cuban, peruvian, caribbean (everything is hot and they love goat) argentinian, and creole.
I don't drink much, so I have no idea what a mojito tastes like, although I know it's rum and mint.
My favorite columbian drink is aguardiente, which can render you unconscious after just 3 or 4... of cuban drinks, I like tres moscas.... which means "3 flies" and is a coffee-flavored thing with 3 coffee beans floating in it.

Food talk aside:
It's still sickening to see conservatives publically dump hatred on Chicago just so they can see Obama "fail" at something. If that's OK with you, fine.

I can watch it all I want because it's not my city they're trashing. I just feel bad for you, because you can't disagree with them or you're not a good conservative.
Actually I don't feel bad for you.... you get what you pay for.
Did you know that 84% of Americans (72% of Chicagoans) wanted the Olympics to be held in Chicago? It's a shame that a few loud-mouthed Obama haters are making your city look so bad.
But here's a member of Congress who's sticking up for you guys, so it's not all bad:
