Hype, have you tried internet dating? I don't know, seems like it might be fun.
That is too dangerous, you might end up with a Merlin type!

Be strong, HH, you'll definately be in my thoughts! Wish I could literally stand there with you............
To the other topic: I tried a new place for lunch today and was glad I did. Thinking of what you said Hype, I could see how it would be a great place to meet someone, and wonder if perhaps you have a place like this where you live. It was something like a Starbucks, but more of a book store with a coffee & breakfast/lunch shop.
This particuliar one was filled with Christian books, art, and such, but the general vibe in there was quite pleasant and laid-back. Some were working on their computers, or just reading books, and it was very easy to strike up a conversation with people in there.

Yeah, I've given it a shot. If I were in a larger city, it might work out. Not so much around here.
It's how I met my wife. We married less than a year after first writing to each other and have been married over three years with our second son on the way next month.
It can work.
I suppose so, but so far, no avenues are panning out.
The only girls in the area who attempt Internet dating are generally those with insurmountable problems in their lives.
Bars aren't much better; the girls there are alcoholics and addicts, and one of them even stole my car - although, fortunately, my roommate's flying leap onto the hood prevented them from getting very far.
Work is no good, as all the girls are spoken for.
Church has a massive age gap between 15 and 40.
AA meetings are populated almost exclusively by older men.
They say that most successful relationships begin with introductions by mutual friends, but I have no friends who have friends who are unattached women. Well, I have one such friend, but all those unattached women are trying very hard to date him.
Maybe I need to start taking dance lessons or something. The problem there is that any attempt to dance I've ever made has been met by immediate rejection. When I tried to dance in the vicinity of my ex-wife, she would shake her head sadly and say, "Divorce."
How right she was.
Well, if you weren't so young in your sobriety, I would suggest a country western night club. But like I always say, if you hang out in a Barber Shop long enough, eventually you will get a hair-cut...so stay away from the bars.
I would stay away from the laundry mats. If I were single, they would be the last place I would be looking for a serious relationship. Now, a casual night out for a good time, it would be ok. Let's face it, these women don't have a lot going for them, or they would have a washer and dryer in a nice home of their own.
Grocery stores are good places, but go to ones in an upper-class neighborhood. One other thing, when you see that they don't have a wedding ring on ( be careful, women take their wedding rings off like some men do ). However, you can get a general feel if they are single by seeing what they are putting in their cart.
Don't be intimidated by beautiful women. They are often the easiest to pick up. All you have to do is approach them and start up a conversation. You will get some no's but you will also get some yes's.

Love is not a place
To come and go as we please
It's a house we enter in
And then commit to never leave
Lock the door behind you
Throw away the key
We'll work it out together
Let it bring us to our knees
Love is a shelter in the raging storm
Love is peace in the middle of a war
If we try to leave, may God send His angels to guard the door
No, love is not a fight but it's something worth fighting for
To some, love is a word
That they can fall into
But when they're falling out
Keeping that word is hard to do
Love will come to save us
If we'll only call
He will ask nothing of us
But demand we give our all
I will fight for you
Would you fight for me?
It's worth fighting for

Oh, and one more thing ... for Jon.
You'll find the perfect recipe for true love on page 119 of the Twelve and Twelve. (I think it's 119, but 114 rings a bell too).
Remember, since this was written in the 1930's, the phrase "boy meets girl on AA campus, and love at first sight ensues" probably refers to what we commonly call the 'one-night stand'.

You're such a sleaze, hiram.... first you try to derail Hype's sobriety by telling him if he had just been sober a little longer, you'd recommend he go to some country music bar... then you tell him that women who use laundromats are losers (never mind that many single women live in apartments and not in a house) and then give him lessons on how married couples cheat on each other.
Country music bar, beautiful married women, taking off wedding rings... you sound like a bad episode of Dallas.

That's not a bad idea, Hype. If not dancing, something.
At 30, I decided to go back to college (I didn't go after high school, I went right into a job in a field that's now for all intents and purposes obsolete) for a degree in journalism. While there, I went down to the school paper to work on it, and did copy editing with a girl who I got to be great friends with. Come June, we'll be celebrating our tenth anniversary.
Now, you don't have to pursue a degree, adult education offers great opportunities to meet people. You may not meet someone in a class, but you might make a friend, who knows someone...
Well, you get the picture.

Sorry to hear that you had to go through a divorce, hope you find someone that you can grow old with.
But I am pretty bad to give advice about women, I don't trust them.

If you don't at least trust your wife, Jimmy, you're eventually heading for divorce yourself. You can't stay married to a person you don't trust.

Hiram: I did no such thing. I warned him against going to bars.

Hiram: Most decent apartment complexes either have washer and dryers in the apartment, or a Laundry mat on the apartment complex.
and then give him lessons on how married couples cheat on each other.
Hiram: I did no such thing. I warned him against the possibility of cheating wives.

Yes, you just "forgot" that bars aren't good places for ex-alcoholics to go to, no matter how long they've been sober. Not to mention the bar-fly women that hang out in them.
I guess it's ok to be a bar fly but not use a laundromat.
Nice reasoning.

for ex-alcoholics to go to,
What is an ex-alcoholic? I've never heard of one, have you?
Women who enjoy dancing in a club are bar-flys in your mind? Wow, you don't have a very high opinion of women! Your fundism is coming out in you. Do you speak in tongues?

What is an ex-alcoholic An alcoholic who no longer drinks alcohol.
I've never heard of one, have you? yes.
Women who enjoy dancing in a club are bar-flys in your mind? It isn't a "club," it's a country and western bar filled with drunk rednecks crying in their beer.
Wow, you don't have a very high opinion of women! Not of women who would hang out at your little country music bar, that's for sure. But to be fair, I don't have a very high opinion of ANYBODY who chooses to spend their time hanging out in bars of any kind, regardless of their gender.
Do you speak in tongues? Glossolalia is Full Gospel, not fundie. Dumbass.

I actually thought that Hiram's advice was pretty sound, Merlin. I didn't see him saying that Hype should go to a bar, but rather than going to a country western bar wouldn't be a good idea in his case.
BTW, Jimmy, I don't know who that is in your avatar, but I nominate it for gayest avatar ever to appear on AARM.
