Just an update on what is going on here at AARM. As many of you know, I was screwing around with permissions these past couple of days.
I first separated people into groups and gave each group restricted access to the forums. This was active only for a few hours, and then I gave everyone equal access to the entire forums again. (In the process I did delete a couple of the old forums which were rarely ever used. I figure we have enough forums here and they were not really necessary.)
Next I arbitrarily, and randomly, changed the 'group' assignments of people, hoping they would figure out that it didn't really matter what group they were in; thus trying to push the lesson of the sneetches finally home.
Lastly, and this is the only thing that is really important. I came across a post of Manofire and another by J. Sloan which was filled with the most unbelievable level of hate, vitriol, and personal attack I have read in a long time.
After having just been trying to send people a signal they ought to be a little more civil with each other, this I decided was just too much.
What was even more absurd is that J. Sloan had already asked to have his account deleted but, like a junky who has to come back for more, he just keeps logging in and creating hate and vile bile.
As of today, both Manofire and J. Sloan have extremely limited access to the forums. Everyone else is unrestricted as before and whatever group you may have been assigned is nothing more than an arbitrary string of ASCII text. It has no meaning.
Look, there are probably over 10 million message forums on the Internet where people can talk. In addition, any and all of your could each create ten forums of your own in ten minutes using publicly available free services.
I assume you hang out here out of habit or something else. I don't care if you keep talking here. But, it is my forum, and the last time it had to be shut down was due to claims of TOS violations.
I have personally had it with Manofire and J. Sloan. Feel free to have open debates and discussion but I reserve the right to restrict access to people who do nothing more than pour hate speech into this site.
If you think it is unfair that I restricted manofire and J. Sloan, well that's just fine. Go create your own forum. Doesn't bother me one bit, I could care less.
But I don't need to log into these forums and read the kind of outrageous hate speech I have read here lately.
Take it or leave it, I don't really care. And, I reserve the right to change my mind in the future. But, J. Sloan has already requested his account deleted (something I will not do). He should show some personal self restraint to simply not log in. And, I have reached the end of my patience with Manofire. Both can still post in one of the message forums here. And, both might possibly have alternate accounts I haven't discovered.

Thanks for the update, John. I, personally, have finally grown weary of the dynamics of this particular group, but I still visit out of habit. Gayle did start up an "AARM II" a couple of months ago when these boards were going down on a regular basis. Moderation was given to Candace and Limana and I have no intentions of ever registering on that board.
Loryn created a forum last year as a respite from some uglyness that had been going on here, basically between the liberal types and the more conservative types, AFAICT, and things are going well over there for us. It has been bitterly referred to as our "secret board" by those not invited, but it's no secret at all. It's just private. However, some of us continue to peruse this board as well.
Internet communities are a funny thing and certainly great opportunities for "social experiments" as you have done. I would be interested in reading commentary on what you have learned over these many years if you should ever write one.

You listen to me, carol: I have NEVER in my whole life been unfair in moderating someone even if I disliked them and neither have I given unfair privilege to someone because I liked them. I sat on CARM and listened to nauseating charismatics attack each other in God's name for 2 damned years, and never once did someone say I was unfair. I have moderated many boards, and never been accused of being unfair.
I am sick and tired of your complaining.... YOU are the one who comes here to insult and leave instead of trying to participate in a discussion. You tag-team with people from your board, slam somebody, and run off. You and manonfire had a field day doing that before you left a couple of weeks ago, then you came back and did it again.
YOU are the one who participates in a hidden board where you have ADMITTED to saying such hateful things about posters here (like me) that you privately apologized for it.
YOU are the one who continually portrays everything as "us" against "them."
YOU are the one who continually talks about your spiritual superiority over atheists while you brag about the unscriptural things you do.
Don't you DARE insinuate that I am unfair or that limana is unfair in moderating and that's why you will never go to Gayle's board. Gayle put that up as a place to meet in case AARM crashed or John closed it down and that's a hell of a lot different reason than to put up a secret board to make fun of people's appearance.
She even invited you to post there.
You need to stop judging people by the evil in your own heart.

| It was nice of Gayle to invite me after holding a grudge for so long, but the fact of the matter is, all three of you girls are major grudge holders and I have no intentions of putting myself into your lair whether or not you have a history of moderating anything fairly or unfairly. You have a horrible temper, as is evident all over the place (including this last post of your), and I'm tired of dealing with it.

Not really. Unless you stir up shit again, I have no motivation to bring up anything from the past. If you don't misrepresent facts, you won't have a problem with me. OK, you wanna name your "half a dozen" people so they can tell me what they told you? When Toni started the boards last year you were being horrible to me. That was actually part of the reason she started the boards so I could have a pleasant place of respite. Yes, I complained about you a bit back then. However, you really haven't been the topic of much conversation in awhile. I also remember our pleasant PM rapport which took place not too long ago here. Perhaps I had a little to drink that night and was in the mood for some pleasant chit chat which you were not giving me publically on the boards, but were more than willing to indulge via PM. It was me who reach out to you, not vice versa.
