Thanks, Ronda, for sending me the AARM link recently; I was unable to login to TalkBeliefs tonight, kept receiving a QUERY error? Would you (or someone w/current access to TB) mind doing a copy/paste of this prayer request there, as well?
DETAILS: On Monday, July 14, my 25-year old daughter, Chelsea, was taken by ambulance to Baylor Emergency Room, where she was placed on LIFE SUPPORT. It appears she overdosed on prescription cough syrup, and her babysitter only realized she wasn't "sleeping" approx. 13 hours later. Unfortunately, she lay in the same position at the foot of her bed all that time, and now suffers from a limb- and life-threatening condition called COMPARTMENT SYNDROME, which required fasciotomies on her left arm and leg while still in the Emergency Room; she had almost NO BLOOD PRESSURE, and required massive amounts of meds to increase BP; and she was in complete RENAL (KIDNEY) FAILURE, requiring 24-hr. hemodialysis (we were warned Tuesday that it would be months before they would functioning again, if ever). She was receiving 1 liter/hour of fluids to dilute the toxins in her kidneys, and swelled to nearly 3x her normal size in just a couple of days.
Around 6am Tuesday, she was taken to ICU where--as of this posting Monday @ 1am--she still remains on life support, in critical condition. She's had 5 surgeries, primarily to clean necrotic (dead) muscle tissue from her arm & leg, and a 6th is anticipated tomorrow (Monday, July 21). Unfortunately, on Thursday, with her dire condition rapidly declining, surgeons had to amputate her left leg at the knee. On Saturday, they removed the entire muscle from her left forearm as well, which means she won't have function of her left hand, either. Tomorrow, they hope to determine how much further up her leg they will have to amputate in order to save her. Please pray they are able stop the amputation somewhere on her thigh; there is a possibility they will have to amputate at the hip, which eliminates a functioning prosthetic leg almost entirely.
Devastating as it was, after the amputation her kidneys miraculously began functioning, at least partially, and her BP improved enough that she was (temporarily?) removed from dialysis and BP meds... and she has held her own since that time, thank God! She remains sedated & on full life support, though the lung doctor thinks her lungs may function again soon. Even so, they need to conclude the surgeries prior to removing her from the ventilator. She currently has a temp fluctuating between 100.2 - 100.9, though they've "expected" it because of all the surgeries, and don't seem overly concerned at the moment. As of yesterday (Saturday), they finally began giving her nutrition through a feeding tube; between the diuretics and food, her BP has continued to increase, and is currently stabilized around 105/56; her kidney output has increased more than 8x since Thursday, and a good deal of fluid/swelling is gone. Finally, just yesterday, several of her doctors' have begun to show cautious optimism that she might actually survive (she was originally given only a 5-10% chance of survival). For those who may remember, Chelsea also has two beautiful children: Sweet little Destiny turned 3 in June, and her adorable brother, Kaiden, turned 2 on July 13 (the day before this tragedy occurred).
PLEASE, IF YOU FIND IT IN YOUR HEART TO BOW YOUR HEAD & PRAY FOR OUR PRECIOUS DAUGHTER, CHELSEA, at any time in the coming days, weeks or months, we remain most humbly, sincerely & eternally grateful.
I will continue to provide updates as I am able. There's obviously more hope than before, and our sweet & loving girl is definitely a fighter, with a strong heart and an amazing will to live... but the hurdles still come every single day, and we're not nearly out of the woods. Though they're finally allowing for just the slightest bit of optimism, doctors still say it's "hour to hour..." but I'm earnestly praying that God has given her much more time than that!
Thank you & Godspeed,
Terri

Praying, Terri. May God bless your daughter, you, and the rest of the family somehow through this trial.

Oh my God, honey!
I just prayed my heart out for her and you after reading this, and will continue to do so hour by hour.
What kind of pain must she have been in to have done this?
This hurting world. It's so sad.

Terri.. I am so so sorry that your family is going through this.
Here's what the doctors told me about kidney failure when Kenneth was in the PICU (and also in complete kidney failure): The kidneys are usually the first organs to shut down when the body is in crisis. The body will reserve resources for the more important organs, ie the brain. The fact that kidney function is returning is a GREAT sign that things may be looking up for her in other areas.
I will most definately pray for your daughter and her children. I know what it's like to watch your child hooked up to all of the machines, and to hear awful pronouncements from doctors. It's the worst thing a parent can be asked to do, so I hope you don't mind if I add you and your husband to the list as well.
Make sure that you take some breaks while she's in ICU. 5 minutes of walking outside can really help to clear your head; you can sit in shifts so that somebody's always with her. Have somebody bring you food that doesn't come from the hospital cafeteria.
Praying for all of you.

Just got a limited (text) update from Terri for those concerned and praying.
"Next surgery scheduled for Wednesday at 11:30. Doctor to close what he is able on Chelsea's leg, and check the arm sutures for healing. Also to replace central IV lines, etc. Blood pressure is great, and temp is normal."
That's all I know for now. Please KEEP PRAYING!!!!!!

I'm waiting for the right time this afternoon to text or phone her. I'm on Eastern Standard Time, and she's not. Chelsea could very well be in surgery right now.
Thanks for your well-wishes, SA.

Words cannot describe how deeply saddened I am by this nor can they convey properly my sincerest condolences on your daughter's situation. You, your daughter, and her children will be in my thoughts today and everyday. You have my hopes for a positive outcome despite what has already happened.
Best Regards,
Daryl

I certainly will, Met.
Thanks again to all who are thinking good thoughts and sending up prayers for Clay and her family.
I'll be in divorce court tomorrow morning, but will let everyone know if I hear anything as soon as I get back, hopefully by early afternoon.

Crap.
I just logged on for a quick lurk and found this. Dammit, Terri, I hope with all my heart that things turn out for the best. You and your family have all the well-wishes possible from myself, Mrs Aldaron and Little Aldaron.
Let me know if there's anything we can do to help.
*hugs all 'round*
